It’s been a great year so far for our golf tips, with 5 winners to date in 2017, but our luck ran out at The Masters – as our 28/1 selection Justin Rose just lost out to Sergio Garcia in a play-off.
The week began in fine style, as our 80/1 suggestion to be the 1st round leader, Lee Westwood, landed a place at 1/5th odds and a victory for Rose would have capped a magnificent start to April, after Russell Henley’s 40/1 win at the Houston Open.
However, sometimes you just have to take the rough with the smooth, and who could begrudge Garcia (available at 40/1 pre tournament) his first major title 21 years after his 1st attempt?
At the age of 37 it was beginning to look like time was running out for the Spaniard – who has finished in the top 10 at 22 major championships during a brilliant career.
Garcia was fifth at the Open Championship last summer and has been trimmed in the betting to a best price of 20/1 with Coral for this year’s tournament – which will be played at Birkdale in July. Garcia will be one of only a handful of players to have played there twice before, finishing 29th as a teenager in 1998 and 51st 9 years ago.
