It was a profitable Canadian Grand Prix weekend for our regular followers as Kimi Raikkonen duly let Vallteri Bottas through for a podium finish, and we’ll be hoping for more good fortune for Williams this weekend as the tour heads to Austria.

Ferrari have had a much improved look about them recently, and despite failing to podium for the first time all season in Canada, it was a pretty impressive weekend in terms of outright pace for the Maranello outfit. Kimi Raikkonen achieved his best qualification of the season and only a stupid mistake saw Bottas profit, while Vettel steered his car from almost the back of the grid to a highly credible fifth.

Vallteri BottasNonetheless, at odds of just 1/2 for a podium finish, it is hard to justify backing Vettel again this weekend when considering just how well Williams were suited to the track here last season. After locking out a 1-2 on the grid, they finished 3rd and 4th on the track and the signs are strong they could turn it on again, as they are bringing some significant upgrades to their car this weekend. Bottas has beaten Massa in five of the six races the pair have started this season, and looks a fair shout at 7/2 to secure a podium finish with William Hill.

Austria demands similar attributes to Canada – mainly serious top end grunt – and that could play into the hands of the Mercedes powered Force India. Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez were 4th and 6th fastest through the speed trap in qualifying for Canada, and the same again in the race. At 4/1 and 6/1 respectively with Ladbrokes for Top 6 finishes they could be well placed to spring a surprise if heavy brake wear takes it’s toll ahead of them and should be competitive.

Finally, with Austria the shortest circuits (in terms of time) on the calendar all season, Bet365 may have misjudged their qualifying winning margin market, where they offer 15/8 that the qualifying time is lower than 0.15 seconds this weekend.
