Today’s bet of the day is in the early rounds of Europa League qualification, where getting a view on who is who can be as difficult for bookmakers as it is for punters.
Buducnost Podgorica v Spartaks Jurmala
Thursday 2nd June / 7.30pm
Latvian side Spartaks travel to Montenegro to play Buducnost Podgorica and there are reasons to believe that the home side should be shorter than the odds imply.
Firstly, Spartaks are not exactly world beaters in Latvia. They actually finished 6th in the table and only found themselves awarded a Europa spot after both Liepaja and Daugavpils were blocked from participating due to licensing issues with UEFA.
Secondly, the summer hasn’t been kind to them and they lost the services of Edgars Gauracs, who was previously their top scorer with 14 goals in 16 starts. Among other departures the club have just a handful of players left on full time contracts.
The weather looks set to be around 90 degrees which won’t suit the Latvians and the UEFA co-efficient rankings would suggest strongly that a good Montenegran outfit should be more than enough for an average Latvian side.
All in all, this looks to be there for the taking for the home side, and stand-out odds of 8/11 with Paddy Power look worthy of a decent bet.
