Bookies Expect Continued Villa Surge

sky-bet-championship-trophyWhile Newcastle are storming to the title in the Championship and are now no bigger than 1/4 with Coral, the promotion betting looks wide open – with a host of clubs jostling for positions in the top six.

One team to keep a close eye on is Aston Villa, who most firms are trying to keep on-side. After a desperate 2-0 defeat at Preston back in October, which cost Roberto Di Matteo his job, Villa looked to be artificially short in the promotion betting at 15/2. But that appears to have been a wise move on the part of the layers as Villa are on a six-match unbeaten run since the appointment of Steve Bruce and they were unlucky not to win at second-placed Brighton on Friday.

It speaks volumes that Villa supporters have quickly taken to Bruce, who managed rivals Birmingham. He’s a specialist at this level and can keep his side on an upward trajectory, having already moved them up from 20th position to 13th.

With 29 games yet to play, Villa are only 5 points outside the play-off places. They’re best price 6/1 with William Hill for promotion and 11/8 at Bet365 for a Top 6 finish.
