Brownlee Odds Tumble

SPOTY TrophyBookmakers have been scrambling to slash their odds on Alistair Brownlee winning BBC Sports Personality of the Year after the gold-medal winning triathlete found himself propelled to the top of social media trends with footage of him carrying brother Jonathan over the line in the final race of the World Championships in Mexico.

Brownlee was freely offered at odds as long as 200/1 with most bookies as recently as Monday evening, but have since come tumbling down to a best price of 5/1 with BetVictor, with the public expected to get behind the double Olympian in December’s award ceremony.

You can back him each-way at that price with 1/5th odds for the ‘place’ (1st, 2nd or 3rd) – so you would get all your money back were he to finish either second or third.

Andy Murray has been eased to 5/2 with BetVictor after Great Britain were unable to reach a second Davis Cup final, but the Scot remains favourite after winning both Wimbledon and the Olympic gold medal, while Mo Farah is second favourite at 3/1 with Paddy Power, but continues to attract some unwelcome media attention.

In a massively open heat, Laura Trott is a 13/2 shot with Coral after setting records in Rio, while Nick Skelton is at 16/1 with Bet365 and Gareth Bale 20/1 with Unibet.
