With no English clubs remaining at the Champions League Quarter Finals stage, we have an even better reason to place a few bets – to keep things interesting.
Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid
|Over 2.5||Total Goals||23/20||Coral, William Hill|
|Cristiano Ronaldo||First Goalscorer||11/2||Ladbrokes|
Real Madrid beat city neighbours Atletico 4-1 in the final last season after extra-time, but needed a 93rd minute Sergio Ramos’ equaliser to do so.
Atletico have had the best of things since – the two sides have already met six times in league and cup competition in the 2014/5 season with Real yet to win (L4, D2), including a 4-0 thumping here at the Vicente Calderon in February.
However, that means Real are available at a tempting price of 7/4 with Bet365, which looks a stellar bet – they have won all four of their Champions League away games this season, including a 3-0 demolition of Liverpool at Anfield.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side have also scored the second highest number of Champions League goals this season (21) from 106 shots (second highest), while Atletico have scored 12 goals against Real in those six meetings this season, so we also suggest backing ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ at best odds of 23/20.
Cristiano Ronaldo has had a record 23 shots on target in this season’s Champions League and has scored 8 goals in 8 games (50% of which were the first goal of the game) – he must be backed at an absolutely huge 11/2 with Ladbrokes to score first.
Juventus v Monaco
|Under 2.5||Total Goals||8/15||Bet365|
|Carlos Tevez||First Goalscorer||3/1||William Hill|
|Juventus 1-0||Correct Score||4/1||Betfred|
|Juventus 2-0||Correct Score||5/1||Betfred|
These sides have been far from prolific this season in the Champions League and we anticipate a low scoring affair at the Juventus Stadium.
Monaco have scored just 7 goals in eight games, keeping five clean sheets, and 7 of those 8 games finished with less than 3 goals, so our first advice is to back ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ at best odds of 8/15 with Bet365.
It’s interesting to note that their respective goalkeepers (Gianluigi Buffon and Danijel Subasic) have the two best records, in terms of saves, in the Champions League this season, but we feel it will be Subasic who will be the busier on Tuesday – Carlos Tevez has scored 6 Champions League goals this season and we recommend backing him to score the first goal here at 3/1 with William Hill – especially as that firm refund losing First Goalscorer bets should your player score the second goal.
Finally, we think a couple of Correct Score bets should be placed with Betfred – as they refund losing Correct Score bets on all televised games that finish 1-1. Let’s back Juventus to win 1-0 (4/1) and 2-0 (5/1).
PSG v Barcelona
|Yes||Both Teams To Score||4/5||BetVictor, Betfred, Ladbrokes|
|Over 2.5||Total Goals||9/10||Unibet|
The glamour tie of the quarter finals and the bookmakers have taken a big chance in offering the French team, playing at home, as huge outsiders. We feel that they have a decent chance of beating Barca – at least better than the 19% chance represented by odds of 21/5 with BetVictor.
PSG have beaten Barcelona in the competition already this season and although Zlatan Ibrahimovic misses the game through suspension, he also missed that 3-2 win here in September.
That said, we doubt that PSG can prevent Barcelona from scoring – the Spanish giants have scored in their last 18 European games against French opposition and given that both sides have scored in their six previous clashes, we feel that backing ‘Both Teams To Score’ here at best odds of 4/5 really is stealing money.
Given 20 goals were scored in those six head to heads, we also suggest backing ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ at best odds of 9/10 with Unibet (as short as 8/11 elsewhere).
Finally, it is certainly worth noting that you can get enhanced odds of 9/2 on Barcelona to win the match with Winner – click here to claim this exclusive offer.
Porto v Bayern Munich
|Porto (+1)||Asian Handicap||11/20||Bet365|
|Porto 2-1||Correct Score||14/1||Betfred|
|Porto 3-1||Correct Score||50/1||Betfred|
|Yes||Both Teams To Score||20/21||BetVictor|
|Over 2.5||Total Goals||11/10||BetVictor|
Despite being away from home, and at the business end of the competition, Bayern Munich are odds on to win and we feel there may be a touch of value in supporting Porto here – especially as the Portuguese side are unbeaten in nine consecutive European home games, winning 6 of the last 7 played in front of their own fans.
Take advantage of Betfred‘s 4/1 on Porto winning here, while we also think backing them with a goal start on the Asian Handicap at 11/20 with Bet365 looks fair (you only lose if Bayern win by two goals or more, with money back if Bayern win by one).
But it’s unlikely Porto will keep a clean sheet, given Bayern have scored 16 goals in their last 8 away games in this competition, so we suggest backing a couple of Correct Score bets with Betfred, with their offer to refund stakes if the game finishes 1-1. So, take 14/1 on a 2-1 Porto win and also a huge looking 50/1 on 3-1.
We also feel that backing ‘Both Teams To Score’ at 20/21 and ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ at 11/10 – both with BetVictor – are decent shouts.
Finally, it is worth noting that Coral are offering new customers enhanced odds of 9/1 on Barcelona and Bayern both to win – click here to claim this exclusive offer.
