We mentioned at the start of the season that we liked Sheffield Wednesday as an outsider in the Championship betting and while they made a sluggish start to the campaign, Sunday’s 1-0 win at Huddersfield has moved them to the fringes of the play-off places.
It’s not unusual for the previous season’s beaten play-off finalists to make a slow start and the Owls won only one of their first 5 games.
However, they have now won five of the last seven, having beaten a Huddersfield side who were the early season pacesetters and who were defending a 100% record at home. Wednesday’s promotion odds, which were out to a peak of 8/1 when they were struggling in September, are now a best of 5/1 – and as short as 7/2 in places.
They look the pick of the sides to join Newcastle and Norwich in gaining promotion, although Wolves, who impressed in their draw at Aston Villa, are another tempting prospect at 10/1, especially when you consider that a poor Villa side are a 17/2 shot.
