The bookmakers’ have Croatia as favourites to beat Portugal on Saturday evening in Lens – but we’re not so sure.

Croatia can be backed at best odds of 7/4 with BetVictor, with both Portugal and the draw available at 21/10 with Bet365.

That seems a big price on Portugal given that star performer Cristiano Ronaldo is back scoring – his confidence will be sky high following a brace against Hungary.

The two nations have only ever played each other three times – and on each occasion Portugal have won (3-0, 2-0 and most recently 1-0).

Both teams showed spirit by coming from behind in their final group games, with Croatia’s 2-1 defeat of Spain probably the performance of the tournament so far.

But Portugal came through against the odds in their match against Hungary, with Ronaldo now as low as 4/1 to be the tournament’s top scorer (7/1 with Betfair).

We suggest backing him to be the first goalscorer in this game at stand-out odds of 9/2 with Ladbrokes, while Ivan Perisic, scorer of Croatia’s winner against Spain, also looks worth backing at 7/1 with Bet365.

We feel this game may be a high tempo affair and with a total of 9 goals in their final group games, we recommend backing Over 2.5 Goals at 9/5 with BetVictor.

Finally, we’ll go for 2-1 and 3-1 Portugal wins at odds of 12/1 and 33/1 respectively with Bet365 – who refund losing Correct Score bets on all matches that finish 0-0.
