England’s odds for this winter’s Ashes series have drifted to 3/1 after Ben Stokes was warned his participation is in doubt after the star all-rounder was involved in a nightclub brawl in Bristol.
Stokes was told on Friday that he would not travel with the rest of the squad at the end of October as he awaits the outcome of a police investigation into the incident, while his team-mates Jake Ball and Jonny Bairstow were given written warnings about their conduct by the ECB for their breaches of team discipline.
England had been priced at 5/2 after ending their summer with Test series victories over South Africa and the West Indies, but Bet365, Ladbrokes, Betfred and Coral have all pushed them out to 3/1 after the stories of indiscipline in the one-day squad emerged. Australia have been cut from a best price of 8/13 with Bet365 to best price of 1/2 with William Hill.
A 3-1 series win for the hosts is seen as the most likely outcome at general best odds of 5/1, while England are available at stand-out odds of 14/1 with Bet365 to put their current troubles behind them and win the five-match series 3-2.
