The first competitive England v Scotland fixture since 1999, when a Don Hutchison header gave Scotland a 1-0 victory in a Euro 2000 play-off second leg at Wembley.

However, England had already won the first leg 2-0 – courtesy of two Paul Scholes goals – and bookmakers are confident of an England victory here on Friday night.

Paddy Power offer the best odds of 4/9 on Gareth Southgate’s men, with the draw at 19/5 with Betfred and Gordon Stachan’s side available at 19/2 with Stan James.

Scotland have significant injury concerns and, having lost their last Group F game 3-0 in Slovenia, we agree that England should win this fixture comfortably enough.

We will therefore suggest a split stakes Correct Score strategy of backing both the England 2-0 and 3-0 wins at best odds of 5/1 and 9/1 respectively with BetVictor.

But we also recommend backing the first goal being scored after 28 minutes, as it’s sure to be a cagey first half-hour with few chances – get 10/11 at Paddy Power.

Finally, we’ll suggest a couple of Anytime Goalscorer bets – Harry Kane scored on his return to the Spurs side against Arsenal last week, while Adam Lallana is in top form for Liverpool and Bet365 offer stand-out odds on both players to score at Wembley.
