England find themselves at the top of Group B with four points having beaten Wales in dramatic fashion last Thursday.

A win in Saint-Etienne on Monday would guarantee Roy’s boys top spot and a fixture against the third-place team from Group A, C or D on Sat 25th in Paris.

They can be backed at best odds of 5/6 with Paddy Power to do just that, while Slovakia can be backed at best price 9/2 and the draw at 12/5, both with Bet365.

A draw would still ensure England reach the last 16, but it would open the door for Wales to top the group – so there is every incentive to go for all 3 points here.

But they face a motivated Slovak side who still have every chance of progressing themselves – a draw should be enough for them to qualify in at least third place.

With neither side needing to risk all, we strongly suggest taking the even-money offered by Paddy Power on the first goal coming after 32 minutes – at the World Cup in Brazil two years ago, and at these European Championships thus far, no goals were scored by either side before the 33rd minute in any England game.

Since the World Cup, England have played 23 games, which have featured a total of 65 goals, and only 10 (15%) of those goals were scored before the 33rd minute.

Hodgson may well drop Harry Kane, but is likely to stick to fielding one striker for a game he doesn’t have to win, preferring to pack the midfield and play his more patient game. So, we also like the 13/8 at Bet365 on the half-time score to be 0-0.

As in England’s first two games, a set-piece could therefore be required to break the deadlock and with that in mind we are going to stick with Eric Dier, who offers an aerial threat at corners and free-kicks and also scored directly from a free-kick against Russia, to score first at 25/1 with Coral and at any time at 9/1 with Bet365.

On the same basis, we also suggest backing Wayne Rooney, who takes penalties and free-kicks, to score a goal at generous looking odds of 5/2 with William Hill.

Finally, we like the 1-0 England win at a best price of 11/2, also with William Hill.
