Much of the population of Exeter will decamp to London this weekend as the city’s rugby union and football clubs compete in the capital – having each secured dramatic wins in their respective semi-finals over the last few days.
The Chiefs are up first on Saturday at Twickenham as they meet Wasps in the Aviva Premiership final after a last gasp Sam Simmonds try saw them edge out champions Sarries.
Exeter City will then be hoping to complete a remarkable double in the League Two play-off final against Blackpool at Wembley, after Jack Stacey’s dramatic injury time goal concluded a 6-5 aggregate win over Carlisle on Thursday.
At the start of the football season in August, anyone looking to back City to be promoted to League 1 in a double with the Chiefs to win the title would have got odds of 150/1, while by mid-November the price was out to 500/1, with the Grecians bottom of League Two after losing 11 of their first 16 games.
But Paul Tisdale’s side have fought their way from bottom of the league, to the play-off final and are now 5/6 favourites at Bet365 to overcome Blackpool at Wembley, while the Chiefs will arrive at Twickenham as the slight outsiders, available at best odds of 11/10 with Bet365 to get the better of Wasps – making the double on both the Devon sides just short of 3/1.
