French Presidential Election Betting

Jean-Luc-MelenchonThe first round of voting in the French Presidential election is just a week away yet the field of possible winners has grown from three to four, following a remarkable surge in the polls for the left-wing candidate Jean-Luc Melenchon.

A month ago, the veteran socialist was a 150/1 shot at Coral to become the next President – but he has been backed in all the way to best odds of 8/1 at Betfred (as short as 6/1 elsewhere).

The polls still predict a second round run-off between the favourite, Emmanuel Macron, and either the Front National candidate Marine Le Pen, or former PM Francois Fillon, but Melenchon’s emergence presents voters with another option.

From 1/2 at the beginning of the month, Macron has drifted to a best price of 11/10 with Unibet, while the odds for Le Pen and Fillon have remained steady, both at 3/1, during the same period – despite a scandal surrounding allegations of payments of huge sums of public money to Fillon’s wife and children for work in his offices.
