Southgate-EnglandGareth Southgate’s England face Joachim Low’s Germany in Dortmund on Wednesday night – live on ITV1 from 7.45pm.

The bookmakers have Germany as strong favourites at best odds of 3/4 with Paddy Power, with England available at as big as 17/4 and the draw at 29/10 – both prices with Bet365.

But, perhaps surprisingly, England have won their last two friendlies in Germany – a year ago Roy Hodgson’s side won 3-2 in Berlin, having been 2-0 down, with goals from Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and an injury time winner from Eric Dier.

Previously, in November 2008, Fabio Capello’s England beat Germany 2-1 in Berlin – with goals from Matthew Upson and John Terry, who scored an 84th minute winner.

Of course, in between those two matches, Germany pummelled England 4-1 at the World Cup 2010 and also won 1-0 in a friendly at Wembley back in November 2013.

Given that five of the last six Germany v England games have produced 3 or more goals, we recommend backing Over 2.5 Goals at a best price of 5/6 with Stan James.

England have kept just one clean sheet in their last 12 games against Germany and a bet on both teams to score here also looks worth a dabble at the 4/5 with Bet365.

Remarkably, Jermain Defoe was in the England side that won that aforementioned game in Berlin back in 2008, and he is 9/1 with Bet365 to score first on Wednesday.

But Jamie Vardy looks a better option at the same price with Bet365 – he scored his first international goal in that 3-2 win last year and is back in form with Leicester.

With that game in mind, let’s also try both HT/FT reverses – England/Germany can be backed at 25/1 with Sky Bet and another Germany/England is at 45/1 with Coral.

Finally, we suggest a couple of high scoring Correct Score bets – Germany 3-2 is best price 25/1, while another England 3-2 victory can be backed at 50s – both at Sky Bet.
