Sir Michael Stoute looks set for a successful afternoon on Friday at Glorious Goodwood, as he has two fancied runners in the first two races this afternoon.
Betfred Glorious Stakes
First up is KINGS FETE in the Glorious Stakes. This horse was very unlucky not to win at Royal Ascot last time out when denied a clear run in the closing stages of the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes. He was one place behind Elite Army there, but with better luck here should easily be capable of reversing that form and he is the type of older horse Stoute excels with – he was considered good enough to contest the 2014 St Ledger before missing 2015 through injury.
Sky Bet are offering you a free bet if your horse finishes 2nd or 3rd in this race.

Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes
THIKRIYAAT could give Stoute a quick fire double in the Thoroughbred Stakes, although he’ll have to overcome 4 Godolphin raiders in a field of just 11 to do so.
A fast finishing second in a Group 3 at Ascot recently on soft ground, he looks ready for the return to a mile and should be hard to beat provided he handles the quicker ground here. The form of that Ascot run was franked on Wednesday when Ribchester was a fine third in the Sussex Stakes.

Betfred Mile (Heritage Handicap)
The first big betting heat of the day is the Heritage Handicap, where Franklin D has been backed as if defeat is out of the question in recent days. It is easy to see why as he has the plum draw in stall one, has Ryan Moore aboard and is 10lbs ahead of the handicapper. He might be worth including in combination bets with our selections in the earlier races at best price 9/4 with Sky Bet. However, we are reluctant to make him an outright selection given that price in such a large field.
The problem is that many of his main dangers have unhelpful wide draws.
One who does have a single figure berth is BELGIAN BILL, who was awarded this race last year when the original winner was disqualified. He runs off the same mark here, has the headgear back on and ran well for a long way over a trip that was too far for him last time out.
Drawn six, ONE WORD MORE is also worthy of consideration. He has been running well in defeat all season and seems to need this mile trip these days having previously been at his best over 7f. His rider dropped her whip on his last start, otherwise he might have been even closer and prior to that he flew home late to nearly land a big handicap at York . He has form with Celestial Path, who would have been our tip here but for his poor draw.
Finally, it might also be worth having a few quid on AZRAFF. He has a decent draw and ran well in the Hunt Cup two starts back on unsuitably soft ground. He is a strong traveller, if in the mood, and his trainer has done well with his runners in big handicaps in recent weeks.
Bet365 are offering 5 places for each-way bets on this race (just 4 elsewhere).

Qatar King George Stakes
The day’s big race is the King George for real speedsters over 5f.
We haven’t given up on GOKEN just yet and he ran better than his finishing position in the July Cup might suggest. He can hopefully cope with the drop back to the minimum trip, but his running style means he will always need some luck in running.
There is no doubting COTAI GLORY‘s ability to handle course and distance as he won the Molecombe here as a two year old. He wasn’t disgraced in the July Cup either as neither the soft ground nor the 6f were ideal for him. He has his perfect conditions today and should go close.
Of those at big prices, don’t rule out DIVINE. She has been doing all of her racing over 6f recently, but she isn’t short of speed, gets a handy allowance and loves decent ground, which she should get today despite yesterday’s rain.
|Goken (ew)||3.45 Goodwood||12/1||Bet365|
|Cotai Glory (ew)||3.45 Goodwood||11/1||Bet365|
|Divine (ew)||3.45 Goodwood||33/1||Bet365|
