Qatar Stewards’ Sprint Handicap
The last day kicks off with the Consolation Race for the Stewards Cup and it is a contest that should provide plenty of clues for the big race itself at 3.35pm.
With fresh ground available on that side there is a strong feeling that a low draw may be best, but if that’s the case all of the jockeys may make a bee line for the far rail so luck in running could be crucial too.
Ironically, the horses we fancy here are drawn high and they are SIX STRINGS, MANSHOOD and TOMMY G.
The trio are all relatively lightly raced and so, hopefully, open to further improvement. They also all have form with some cut in the ground, which is another obvious plus, and Six Strings and Tommy G have been placed over 7f. That proven stamina could be key at the end of the business end of this contest.
|Six Strings (ew)||1.50 Goodwood||11/1||Sky Bet|
|Manshood (ew)||1.50 Goodwood||14/1||Paddy Power|
|Tommy G (ew)||1.50 Goodwood||16/1||Sky Bet|
Qatar Summer Handicap
Another big field goes to post for the Summer Handicap that follows and Sir Michael Stoute has a strong hand with three credible contenders.
The one we like most is MAINSTREAM who also comes with the added plus of Ryan Moore. This is his first try at the trip, but he has been staying on well in his races over a mile and a half so he should improve for it.
If there is to be a surprise then CLEONTE could be the one to provide it.
He hasn’t shown much in two starts for Andrew Balding so far, but they have been on quick ground and his form in France before he joined Balding suggested that he would prefer a softer surface. He also has first time cheek pieces on here to try to sharpen him up.
|Mainstream (ew)||2.25 Goodwood||6/1||Sky Bet, Paddy Power|
|Cleonte (ew)||2.25 Goodwood||20/1||Sky Bet, Paddy Power|
Qatar Gordon Stakes
Only five go to post for the Gordon Stakes and Stoute could easily take this race too with Crystal Ocean. He is definitely the one to beat, but better value might be MOUNT MORIAH who has won both his starts on soft ground and is very much on the upgrade. His form over further is another asset given the likely conditions.

Qatar Stewards’ Cup Handicap
There are 26 runners set to go to post in the Stewards Cup and we had a really long shortlist after studying the form overnight. In the end, of those drawn low we have decided to plump for AL QAHWA and SHANGHAI GLORY.
Al Qahwa seems to have improved since joining David O’Meara and needs soft ground to be at his best. In terms of ground conditions, the same is probably true of Shanghai Glory and his comeback run in the Wokingham on unsuitable ground should have put him spot on for this. His trainer won the race two years ago.
On the other side, we like OUTBACK TRAVELLER, DONJUAN TRIUMPHANT and Sir Dancelot. Unfortunately, the price of the latter has shrunk this morning so if you are going to back him we would suggest doing so to win and to cover your stakes on our tips at bigger prices.
Outback Traveller has no end of talent and his strong travelling style is made for races like this. He has been out of form recently, but has the first time visor here and that could be the making of him.
Andrew Balding does well in this sort of race and Donjaun Triumphant could be just about to come good for him. He has had two runs for his new handler in unsuitable races and he looks to have his ideal conditions today.
The others on the shortlist were Raucous, Aeolus, Projection and Eastern Impact.
|Al Qahwa (ew)||3.35 Goodwood||12/1||Paddy Power|
|Shanghai Glory (ew)||3.35 Goodwood||14/1||Coral|
|Outback Traveller (ew)||3.35 Goodwood||28/1||Bet365|
|Donjuan Triumphant (ew)||3.35 Goodwood||22/1||Betfred|
Galway Shopping Centre Handicap Hurdle
The big race at Galway is the staying handicap hurdle at 3.05pm and the ground has really softened at the Irish circuit over the last 48 hours or so. The two we like are SHOWEM SILVER and MINE NOW in a race where stamina will be key.
Paddy Power are offering 5 places for each-way bets on this race.
|Showem Silver (ew)||3.05 Galway||8/1||Paddy Power|
|Mine Now (ew)||3.05 Galway||16/1||Bet365|
