The TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois is a 7,257-yard, par 71 course which has staged the John Deere Classic since the tournament’s inaugural year on the PGA Tour in 1972. With a 72-hole record of 26-under-par set by Steve Stricker in 2010, it is not among the more challenging tracks faced by the tour professionals. Brian Harman won last year with a 22-under-par total.

Masters and US Open champion Jordan Spieth is the red hot favourite for an event he won two years ago at best odds of 4/1 with Stan James. Spieth, who returned to finish in the top 10 last year, is as short as 11/4 with Coral. If the world number two is to win he will have to see off the challenges of course specialists Zach Johnson, the 2012 winner who has been runner-up in the last two editions and Stricker who won three successive titles here between 2009 and 2011. Johnson is the 11/1 second favourite with Stan James and Coral, with Stricker available at 40/1 with Coral. Kevin Kisner, Ryan Moore and Harris English are among the other leading contenders.

Stricker doesn’t get out as much as he used to and has played only six events so far in the current season, but it’s impossible to ignore his record at this course, which reads 1-1-1-5-10-11 in his last six appearances. That price of 40/1 looks way too big.

Steven BowditchCoral’s shortest industry price of 11/4 about Spieth means they offer plenty of each-way value elsewhere and we’ll stick with them for our second selection, STEVEN BOWDITCH, one of our tips in last week’s Greenbrier Classic. Bowditch continued his bright run of form at the Greenbrier by sharing 13th place, just 3 shots off the lead, and he has something to build on at the Deere Run, where he has placed 12th and 11th in the last two years. Coral go 70/1.

Ryan MooreRYAN MOORE is enjoying a consistent season with eight top 25 finishes from his 16 outings, including a victory at the CIMB Classic last November. He’s another player with a good record at this course – he’s never missed a cut here and his last three results in this event read 7-22-8. In a weakened field as many of the best PGA Tour players compete in Scotland, Moore looks a good bet at 25/1 with Bet365Ladbrokes and Paddy Power.
