Venue

The KLM Open 2017 takes place at The Dutch near Gorinchem for the second time and Joost Luiten will be back to defend his home title, having also won this event at Kennemer in 2013. The par 71, 6,981 yard Stadium Course was designed by Colin Montgomerie and makes maximum use of the streams that criss-cross the plot, bringing water into play on almost every hole. Once the players have avoided the water hazards, they will need to get to grips with the contoured greens, providing a further test of their positional play. Other recent winners of this event include Thomas Pieters, Paul Casey and Martin Kaymer, while Simon Dyson won three times between 2006 and 2011.

Favourites

Two-time winner Luiten heads the betting for this event at best odds of 18/1 with Bet365 and Betfred, with Bet365, Betfair and Paddy Power all quoting Bernd Wiesberger at the same price. Lee Westwood is the highest profile player in this week’s field and the Ryder Cup star is a 25/1 chance with Coral, who are offering 7 places for each-way bets, alongside New Zealander Ryan Fox who has been enjoying a great summer. David Horsey and the in-form American Julian Suri are both available at 30/1, with Andy Sullivan a 33/1 shot with Coral.

Tips

FABRIZIO ZANOTTI won the Maybank Championship earlier in the season – his second European Tour title – and has hit some form in recent weeks, finishing third in his native Paraguay before claiming third place again at the European Masters last week. Zanotti was 16th on his first visit to this venue last year, while he was fourth at this event back in 2015. Bet365 and Betfred are both offering 35/1 – or take 33/1 with Coral and those 7 places.

Having slipped out of the world’s top 500 earlier in the year EDDIE PEPPERELL continued his revival by finishing fifth at the Czech Masters at the start of the month and we like his chances this week at best odds of 50/1 with Bet365 and Coral. A top 10 at the Nordea Masters in June gave him renewed confidence and he went on to finish tied-16th at the US Open at Erin Hills. He finished tied-third in this event in 2015 and he can finish the season with a flourish here.

ALEXANDER BJORK‘s results have been getting better week on week and the Swede looks ready to mount a challenge in the Netherlands. Bjork, who was third at the Open de France in July, has posted results of 53-31-25-16 on his last four outings and can continue that sequence with another improvement after that 16th place at last week’s European Open. He’s 40/1 in places, but Coral offer him at 66/1 – especially generous with their 7 places here.
