England’s recorded their 9th successive victory in Saturday’s 37-21 defeat of South Africa at Twickenham, which prompted Ladbrokes to make them an odds-on chance at 10/11 to win next year’s Six Nations – although William Hill still offer 5/4.
Since being dumped out of their own World Cup a year ago, England have found a winning formula under Eddie Jones, but after eclipsing the 10-point handicap on offer against the Springboks, Jones gave a fairly downbeat assessment of their performance – saying that they must improve against Fiji on Saturday, for which Paddy Power offer a 38-point handicap.
Jones has said he wants three players challenging for every position and as he gets closer to achieving that aim, the smart money would be on England shortening from those William Hill odds of 5/4 ahead of their title defence.
Meanwhile the 2014 and 2015 6 Nations champions, Ireland, have been cut from 5/1 to a best price of 9/2 following their famous victory against the All-Blacks in Chicago.
