Huddersfield continue to lead the Championship after their 1-0 win at Ipswich, but Newcastle’s challenge is gaining momentum and their 1-0 win at Rotherham was their seventh in nine league games.
Rafa Benitez’s side have conceded only one goal in their last five away matches and if they can overcome the nerves which appear to be a problem at St James’ Park they could really take off after the international break, when they have a fairly gentle run of fixtures.
Both BetVictor and Ladbrokes have cut the Magpies to odds-on favourites to win the Championship, with most firms now offering even money, but Coral – who offered the biggest pre-season odds of 15/8, appear keen to be taking them on still at a stand-out 5/4.
Despite winning eight of their first eleven league games this season, Huddersfield can be backed at 14/1 with William Hill (1/4 odds, 3 places each-way).
