Luxembourg Stun 1/100 France

France have been pushed back out to 6/1 second favourites for next summer’s World Cup by most bookmakers, just a couple of days after their price was cut across the board in response to their 4-0 drubbing of the Netherlands at the Stade de France.

A shock goalless draw against Luxembourg on Sunday shouldn’t prevent them from qualifying for next summer’s finals in Russia, however, Les Bleus were 1/100 to defeat Luxembourg in Toulouse and their failure to do so raises serious questions about a multi-talented squad – it’s unthinkable that Germany (11/2 World Cup favourites) would have failed to win in the same circumstances, while Luxembourg almost stole all three points when substitute Gerson Rodrigues broke clear and struck a post late on.

France go to Bulgaria next, without the suspended Paul Pogba, before finishing their campaign at home to Belarus. With Sweden just a point behind them, they may yet need two more wins to avoid the play-offs.
