Hideki Matsuyama’s magnificent performance to win the HSBC-WGC Champions event in Shanghai has forced many bookmakers to take evasive action for the first major of 2017, which takes place in April.
The Japanese star was a 25/1 shot to win at Sheshan and he did so in wonderful fashion, putting together rounds of 66, 65, 68 and 66 to finish 7 shots clear of both Henrik Stenson and Daniel Berger, his nearest challengers. It was Matsuyama’s second win of 2016, following his success at the Phoenix Open back in February, and the 10th of his professional career.
From 40/1 a few weeks ago, he is now a best price of 33/1 with Betfred and Coral to win at Augusta, with BetVictor and Stan James going as short as 20/1. Matsuyama finished seventh at this year’s Masters and he was fourth at the PGA Championship.
