Derby County are the form team in the Championship and they are the big movers in the promotion betting following a comprehensive 3-0 win over local rivals Nottingham Forest on Sunday, which was their 6th successive win since Steve McClaren returned to the club.
The Rams made an awful start to the season under Nigel Pearson, scoring only three goals as they won just one of their opening nine matches. However, under McClaren they have hit the net 13 times in six games, while keeping five clean sheets and with trips to QPR and Fulham followed by home games against Birmingham and Wigan, they should be able to maintain their current momentum.
From 10/1 in mid-November, Derby are now in to best odds of 7/2 with Paddy Power and William Hill to be promoted to the Premier League for the first time since they were relegated with just 11 points in 2008. That makes them the third favourites behind the current top two, Newcastle and Brighton, who are 6 and 5 points clear of third placed Reading. Such is the tight nature of the Championship, that Derby’s current run has taken them from 21st place all the way up to fifth spot.
