Lewis Hamilton has been cut to best price 8/13 at Sky Bet to win the Formula 1 Drivers Championship – after claiming his fourth successive victory at the British Grand Prix to move to within a point of Sebastian Vettel at the top of the standings.
A record-equalling fifth success at his home race was made all the sweeter for Hamilton when arch-rival Vettel suffered a tyre failure two laps from home, causing the German to slip from third down into seventh place at Silverstone on Sunday.
As a result Vettel has been pushed out from 11/10 to 15/8 in the betting with Betfair, while Hamilton’s team-mate Valtteri Bottas, who finished second, has been cut from 18/1 to 14/1.
At the mid-way point in the season, Bottas is a further 22 points behind Hamilton, having finished in the top two in each of the last four Grand Prix. The next race in two weeks’ time is in Hungary, where Hamilton has won five times and Vettel once.
