Remarkable scenes at Cheltenham on Tuesday, as Willie Mullins destroyed the bookies with four winners, including Faugheen leading home a one-two-three in the Champion Hurdle.
But it could have been much worse – it has been estimated that the final hurdle fall of odds-on favourite Annie Power, when looking sure to win the Mares Hurdle, saved the industry over £100 million – with stacking multiples heading into the fifth race of the day.
SkyBet’s Horse Racing PR Manager Michael Shinners said: “Annie Power was the single biggest swing in SkyBet’s horse racing history. If she had jumped the last she would surely have won and in turn cost us a small fortune.
“Despite the loss of Annie Power results were very much in the punters favour and they go into day two very much on the front foot.”
And things couldn’t have gone a whole lot better for bookmakers.tv yesterday, with our Day 1 tips including the 1st and 2nd in the Supreme (2/1 & 12/1), 1st and 4th in the Handicap Chase (9/1 & 25/1), 1st and 2nd in the Champion Hurdle (11/10 & 20/1) and 1st and 4th in the Mares Hurdle (6/1 & 18/1).
