Steve McClaren will not be relishing the prospect of hosting a resurgent Liverpool and if the Reds run amok at St James’ Park, his time at Newcastle could well be up.

The last time the ex-England manager faced a Jurgen Klopp side was as manager of Wolfsburg in January 2011 – his team lost 3-0 at home to Borussia Dortmund and he was sacked shortly afterwards.

Newcastle have won just three league home games this calendar year (West Ham, Aston Villa, Norwich) and having lost their last two games 5-1 at Crystal Palace and 3-0 here to Leicester, we cannot see anything other than a comfortable away win.

Liverpool have scored 13 goals in their last three away games, with their midweek 6-1 win at Southampton in the league cup following league wins at Manchester City (4-1) and Chelsea (3-1), so we suggest backing them to win -1 goal on the Asian Handicap at 11/10 with Paddy Power (stake refunded if they win by just one goal).

In the First Goalscorer market we want to be with Daniel Sturridge following his two goals against Southampton – he also scored twice when Liverpool won 6-0 against Newcastle here three seasons ago.

Back him each-way with Paddy Power who offer the best odds of 4/1, plus if you place a £20 pre-match bet on any televised Premier League game with them, you get two free £5 in-play bets on the game.
