Venue

The 7,374 yard Doha Golf Club course has staged the Qatar Masters since its inception in 1998 and with numerous lakes, dunes and sand traps it has proved quite a challenge and produced some famous winners. Major winners Adam Scott and Paul Lawrie have each won here twice along with victories for Henrik Stenson, Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia and, last year, Branden Grace.

Favourites

Defending champion Grace is the market leader with most firms, although the 2014 winner Garcia is made the 15/2 joint favourite by Bet365. Thomas Pieters, who pushed Rickie Fowler all the way in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, is an 18/1 chance with BetVictor, Stan James and Coral, with Louis Oosthuizen at 22/1 and Matthew Fitzpatrick at 25s. Chris Wood and Joost Luiten, the Dutchman who returned to form last week, are also fancied to go well.

Tips

GEORGE COETZEELast week we tipped GEORGE COETZEE as he continues his return from injury and he went well in Abu Dhabi without quite breaking into the top 10. With another week of competitive golf under his belt, however, he could be set to to challenge this week on a course which has been kind to him in the past. The South African was runner-up in 2013, fifth a year later and 12th last time around, with an aggregate score of 42-under for those 12 rounds.

Alex-NorenALEX NOREN didn’t make too many headlines on the European Tour in 2015, but he missed the cut at only one event – the US Open – and was the winner of the Nordea Masters in June. The Swede has enjoyed his last two visits to this course, finishing fourth and ninth with a 13-under-par total on each occasion and he certainly has the quality to get in the mix once again. Take your pick from Bet365Coral and BetVictor who all offer 66/1.

Magnus CarlssonMAGNUS CARLSSON is another Swede who doesn’t attract too much attention but like Noren he has done well here in the past, finishing ninth and 13th in the last two years and making the cut on all three visits. Carlsson was a steady performer last season, missing the cut at just four events, and also played well in Abu Dhabi last week. At 100/1 he’s an interesting each-way pick at Bet365 and BetVictor, while BetVictor go 10/1 for a top 10 finish.
