Ronnie O’Sullivan is 4/1 favourite for the UK Championship, which gets under way at the Barbican Centre in York on November 22nd.
The 10th ranking event of the 2016/17 season features 128 players in the main draw and has been won five times by O’Sullivan, whose most recent success was in 2014 when he defeated Judd Trump in the final. John Higgins is a three-time winner, while Neil Robertson is the defending champion having won two of the last three years.
The nine ranking events this season have produced eight different winners, with current world no.1 Mark Selby the only man to have won twice. World Champion Selby is the second favourite at 13/2, ahead of Trump at 15/2, Ding Junhui at 10/1 and Robertson at 11s.
It’s worth noting here that Sportingbet are offering 4 places (to reach the semi-final) for each-way bets on the UK Championship, with all other bookmakers offering two.
We’ll suggest taking that 10/1, with 4 places, on Ding Junhui – winner of September’s Shanghai Masters. The 2016 World Championship runner-up also won this event in 2005 and 2009 and he has risen from 9th to 4th in the rankings over recent months.
