There are still seven weeks to go until the start of the 2017/18 Premier League season and the big clubs are only just getting started with their summer transfer business, but bookmakers are beginning to report interest in Manchester United in their title betting – just as they did at this stage a year ago.
Stan James have cut United’s title odds from 7/2 to 3/1 – and Paddy Power have trimmed them less significantly, from 7/2 to 10/3, although Betfred and Coral are still offering that 7/2. The trigger for those price changes was Cristiano Ronaldo’s declaration that he intends to quit Real Madrid to focus on sulking about the investigation into his tax affairs outside of Spain’s jurisdiction.
United fans have long held the belief that the Portuguese superstar would return to Old Trafford at the end of his time in the Spanish capital – and even at 32 there’s no doubt that he would have plenty to offer if he linked up again with Jose Mourinho.
Sky Bet are offering betting on Ronaldo’s club ‘after the summer transfer window’ – with United available at 4/1, while Paris St Germain – who have had a longstanding interest in luring Ronaldo to France – can be backed at 9/1.
