Saturday Horse Racing Tips

Picking winners in the Shergar Cup today is complicated by the fact that the final makeup of the fields won’t be known until the last minute and the skills of some of the jockeys around a course they have never ridden at before is equally uncertain.

Shergar Cup Dash Stakes

In the Dash that opens proceedings, plenty of the runners would prefer further and / or softer ground.

That may be the case for JUSTICE DAY, but we think he is worth chancing nonetheless as he may be able to outclass these. He was beaten only 3 lengths in the King George last time out and seems to be running into form.

The biggest threat could come from BOOM THE GROOM for the in-form Tony Carroll. Although his best form has come on the all-weather, he should be suited by ground and trip and looks over-priced with 12/1 available with Coral this morning.

Shergar Cup Stayers

At the other end of the distance spectrum is the Stayers Handicap, which follows.

Hassle ran an eye catcher over this course and distance last time out, albeit on very soft ground. However, at a bigger price, CASTILO DEL DIABLO appears better value as he looks ready for the return to 2m.

He’s been found wanting for pace over shorter trips recently, although he has still managed to make the frame on those last two starts. He is another who has tended to ply his trade on the artificial surfaces, but there is no reason why he shouldn’t be as effective on turf.

Shergar Cup Challenge   CH4

In the first televised race of the day, the Challenge Handicap, Majeed could give David Simcock a quick double, but ELBERETH could do for the same for Graham Lee and slight preference is for this filly, who has taken her form to new heights on her last two starts.

It is worth noting that Sky Bet are offering money back, as a free bet, if your horse finishes second or third in this race.

Lee has a decent ride later on too, in the Classic, and we would suggest backing him and Vincent Cheminaud, both each-way, to lift the Silver Saddle (Shergar Cup – Top Jockey) at odds of 7/1 and 15/2 respectively with Bet365.

Betfred Goals Galore Handicap   CH4

We can’t look past the favourite, REMBRANDT VAN RIJN in Haydock’s feature. He just looks like a fast improving horse, with more to give, and the bookies seem to have priced this one up right as market rival Basateen seems likely to give him most to think about.

Betfred Rose Of Lancaster Stakes   CH4

Finally, in the Rose Of Lancaster Stakes, the makeup of the contest means it is worth taking on the favourite by backing FIRE FIGHTING and MASTER CARPENTER each way. At least one will surely make the frame and either could easily cause an upset.
