Saturday Horse Racing Tips

Today’s big handicaps are the Silver and Gold Cups at Ayr where there are plenty of owners, trainers and jockeys looking to do a famous big race double.

For example, Hawkeyethenoo and Jack Dexter represent the same connections in the two races and both horses, who we’ve tipped at various points throughout the season, have decent chances.

Graham Lee also has good rides in both contests and in the Silver Cup we really like his mount, SHARED EQUITY.

This horse is arguably better over seven furlongs, but this is a stiff six and the guaranteed end to end gallop should play to his strengths. His yard couldn’t be in better form and Lee is an expert in these big fields.

His biggest danger could be the lightly raced filly, JOHARA, who ran an eye catching race on her comeback recently. She could be anything and may be totally unexposed off this mark.

Both are drawn high and so it may be best to have a horse with a low berth in the portfolio too and there would be no more popular winner than HILLBILLY BOY for the soon to be retired Hayley Turner and trainer Tom Dascombe, who is still reeling from the tragic loss of his star performer, Brown Panther.

This horse could really be suited by the step down in trip and he may be hard to peg back if he manages to get out in front.

William Hill Ayr Gold Cup   CH4

We also like a horse dropping back in trip in the Gold Cup – BUCKSTAY.

He travelled really well in first time cheekpieces over 7f last time out and looks to have been laid out for this since. Drying ground will certainly suit him.

On the other side of the track, HIGHLAND ACCLAIM must surely be winning again soon.

He is exasperating at times, but went into the notebook again in the Portland last time out and he ran well in this contest last time season. He couldn’t be in better hands when it comes to preparing a horse for one of these big sprints and he has a good record when re-appearing quickly after a previous outing.

Dubai Duty Free Handicap   CH4

At Newbury, a potentially interesting runner in the Duty Free Handicap is ZAND, who’ll be having his third start for Mark Johnston following his switch from France.

His first two runs were slightly uninspiring, but he has been dropped in the weights as a result and has his ground for the first time. Johnston should also be getting to know him by now and he could prove over-priced.
