Saturday Horse Racing Tips

There’s top class action on the level at Newmarket this afternoon as we enter the final furlong of the flat season.

Championship honours are on the line for the juveniles in the Royal Lodge, Cheveley Park and Middle Park, and there is also a 30 plus runner handicap for punters to get stuck into courtesy of The Cambridgeshire.

Royal Lodge Stakes     CH4

In the Royal Lodge, we think Godolphin’s second string on paper, BAY OF POETS, looks good each-way value.

This is step up in class for him, but he travelled like a decent horse in both of his starts to date. Yes, he was last of six on his debut, but he wasn’t beaten far and the soft going blunted his finishing speed. He could improve again for encountering decent ground for the first time.

Cheveley Park Stakes     CH4

LADY AURELIA should be hard to beat in the Cheveley Park, and so although she is priced accordingly, her odds could still look generous if she is in the same form as she was at Royal Ascot.

Middle Park Stakes     CH4

Value hunters may decide to wait for the Middle Park.

Godolphin will be looking for a double here, with Blue Point having an obvious chance, but this is a funny time of year for two year olds as some can have gone over the top by now, so a shock isn’t impossible.

Plenty of Blue Point’s main rivals on form have had very busy seasons, so it might be worth taking chances on MUBTASIM and SILVER LINE. Both have a bit to find on form, but it is about who is peaking at the right time and either or both of these may have more to offer

Betfred Cambridgeshire     CH4

The Cambridgeshire is one of the toughest handicap puzzles to solve in any flat season and this year is no different. The draw may play a part so it is best to back horses spread across the track.

Conditions look ideal for MASTER THE WORLD, who is drawn one. He was runner up here last year and has his preferred ground. He was a fine second over a trip slightly short of his best in a big handicap at Goodwood three starts ago and we think that race could be key to this contest.

Sixth that day was CARRY ON DERYCK and he has been threatening to win a decent prize for a while. Drawn 35 he gives us a good option on the other side of the track.

Also drawn high is CELESTIAL PATH. He disappointed in that Goodwood race, but had a tough high draw to overcome. Prior to that he was just pipped off in a good race at York and it is worth remembering he was fifth in the 2,000 Guineas here last season.

Bet365 and race sponsors Betfred are offering 5 places for each-way bets on this race, while William Hill go one better and offer 6 places.

Prelude Handicap Hurdle     CH4

There is good jumps action at Market Rasen with valuable races over hurdles and the larger obstacles to whet the appetite for the season ahead.

In the Prelude Handicap Hurdle, the lightly raced SIR TOBY can prove the pick of the Richard Newland’s runners and take the prize.

Prelude Handicap Chase     CH4

The Prelude Handicap Chase looks at the mercy of FOX APPEAL now his yard is back in form after enduring a terrible time last season. He is well handicapped and looks to have everything in his favour.

Presenting Arms and Wadswick Court are threats, but of those at double figure prices CERNUNNOS could be the best outsider.
