Saturday Horse Racing Tips

Many punters will be hoping to increase their war chests today ahead of the start of Royal Ascot next week, but the racing across the country this afternoon is fiercely competitive and standout bets are hard to find.

Scottish Sprint Cup

Musselburgh stages one of its feature flat races, the Scottish Sprint Cup and we like BARNET FAIR, who ran better in the Dash at Epsom last week than his finishing position suggests. He should get the fast run race that he needs here and with luck in running he should go close for sprint king David Nicholls.

Bet365 are offering 5 places for each-way bets on this race (just 4 places elsewhere).

888sport Charity Sprint

York’s main contest today is another sprint – the 888Sport Charity Sprint for three year olds. The race revolves around TWILIGHT SON and Scalzo, either or both of whom could prove to be Group performers in waiting.

We narrowly prefer the former, but the rain won’t have helped him and if the going deteriorates anymore then he may struggle to show his best.

NORTHGATE LAD certainly won’t mind softening ground and he looks the each way value, whilst Roossey and Field Game are interesting outsiders, with the latter possibly more likely to get involved here given that he has a couple of runs under his belt already.

JCB Handicap

Earlier on York’s card is another competitive handicap, this time over 7 furlongs. Again, the potential for more rain makes predicting underfoot conditions difficult, but we’ll take a chance on WITHERNSEA in the hope that he gets the slower ground he relishes. He will certainly enjoy the extra furlong having struggled for pace over shorter trips recently. So Beloved looks the big danger.

Finally, the best bet at Sandown may come in the opener where MUSTAAQEEM, who has shown plenty of signs of greenness on his two starts to date, looks sure to improve again for his winning experience last time out for a yard that continues in fine form.

Today’s races at Sandown are all sponsored by Winner Sports and they are offering money back if your horse finishes second to the SP favourite on every race.
