It’s Shergar Cup day today and, with all of the races live on ITV4, we have tips for you in each contest. And don’t forget Bet365’s ITV Racing 4/1 Offer:
Shergar Cup Dash
First up is the Dash over 5f and it’s worth bearing in mind that the ground is starting to dry out at Ascot. That should leave conditions perfect for top weight MIRZA, who looks to have strong claims based on his excellent effort behind superstar sprinter Battaash at Sandown last time out.
Dean Ivory took last weekend’s big sprint at Glorious Goodwood and he could have the main danger to Mirza here in the shape of TROPICS. This horse missed all of last season, but has gradually been coming back to form in three starts so far this campaign. All his best efforts in the past have been over 6f, but some sprinters are suited by a drop back to the minimum trip as they get older.

Shergar Cup Stayers
The Stayers is next and favourite Swashbuckle could be hard to beat. However, two to take him on with at bigger prices are EUCHEN GLEN and COSMELLI.
Euchen Glen is trying the trip for the first time, but he could improve for it and he has been in good form this season.
Cosmelli is a more speculative option, but he caught the eye when running on well in the closing stages of the Northumberland Plate and he clearly has ability having won five times in Italy last season. His yard is flying and he has a first time visor on.

Shergar Cup Challenge
In the Challenge we like the two GB & Ireland runners at the foot of the weights.
GAWDAWPALIN won over course and distance last time out on similar ground, and he should be able to cope with a 3lbs rise. That was his first run since being gelded.
GREAT HALL is coming down in the weights and will surely be winning again soon. This is his best ground and he too has underfoot conditions to suit.

Shergar Cup Mile
NICHOLAS T looks the one to beat in the Mile. He will enjoy going back up in trip and this is an easier race than he contested last time out.

Shergar Cup Classic
In the Classic, we think the value lies with ITALIAN HEIRESS and RAKES PROGRESS.
Italian Heiress is still a maiden, but she hasn’t been out of the first five in her five career starts and the step up to a mile and a half could be just what she needs.
Rakes Progress can improve for the extra distance here too. He looked a horse to follow when making all to win at Newbury last time out.

Shergar Cup Sprint
The closing contest is the Sprint and this should go the way of the favourite, NOBLY BORN. He hails from a top yard and should be spot on for this having been seen doing all of his best work late on in his two starts so far this season.

Sweet Solera Stakes
Nobly Born represents top trainer John Gosden and we think Gosden can cause a shock in the day’s big race at Newmarket, the Sweet Solera Stakes.
His contender, JULIET CAPULET, is the outsider of the field, but she is progressing fast and her breeding suggests she might cope better with conditions than some of her rivals.
The big danger could be another at a decent each way price, MAMBA NOIRE, who looks ready for this step up to 7f. Her sire loved soft ground and she has the best form in the book courtesy of her third in a Group 2 here last time out.
