Venue

Gullane Golf Club in East Lothian is hosting the Scottish Open for the first time. The course in use for this tournament is a composite of holes from the No.1 and No.2 courses and provides fabulous views across the Firth of Forth. Pot bunkers and wispy rough are the most significant hazards while the par five third hole is renowned as one of the finest in Links golf.

Favourites

With Rory McIlroy ruled out after sustaining ankle ligament damage, defending champion Justin Rose is now the market leader at best odds of 14/1 with Coral as he looks to add to the title he won at Royal Aberdeen 12 months ago. Phil Mickelson, the winner at Castle Stuart in 2013 and a regular at this event, is the 20/1 second favourite with Stan James and Coral. Rickie Fowler, Branden Grace and Links specialist Shane Lowry are among the other front runners. Other players to look out for include Matt Kuchar, Ian Poulter and Luke Donald.

Tips

rafa-cabrera-belloRAFA CABRERA-BELLO arrives in Scotland in confident mood after a purple patch similar to the one which almost secured him a place in last year’s Ryder Cup team. The Spaniard has finished in the top five at three of his last five events and his record in that time reads 4-13-2-11-5, including a fourth place finish at the Irish Open on a Links layout. He has a genuine chance and at 50/1 with BetVictor he’s a decent price too.

James MorrisonWith a win and a 2nd place finish in his last six appearances, JAMES MORRISON is another of the European Tour’s form players who can mix it with the stars of the world game at Gullane. Morrison’s win came at the Open de Espana in May and he followed it up by being runner-up to Bernd Wiesberger in France at the weekend, having been 11th in Germany a week earlier. Betfred are offering the best odds of 55/1.

Soren KjeldsenSOREN KJELDSEN continues to impress and he wasn’t far away from the leaders at Le Golf National on Sunday (tied 15th) after we selected him as one of our tips – and that despite carding three bogeys and a triple bogey in the last 6 holes on Friday. The winner of the Irish Open, the Dane has been on a hot streak for the best part of two months and should love these conditions. Betfred offer a tempting best price of 60/1.
