Andy Murray remains the favourite for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, with the Wimbledon and Olympic champion a best price of 2/1 with Betfred and Coral as he bids to end the season by eclipsing Novak Djokovic at the top of the men’s tennis world rankings.
Murray is obviously a worthy favourite, with several other Olympians also prominent in the betting, among them Alistair Brownlee, Mo Farah and Laura Trott.
Trott is a tremendous athlete and an enthusiastic and prodigious talker – making her an interviewer’s dream – and is an interesting option at 10/1, but her husband Jason Kenny stands out as an each-way bet at the 50/1 with Coral (1/3 odds for 2nd).
Kenny doesn’t do second place in the velodrome, with his three gold medals in Rio taking him level with Sir Chris Hoy as Britain’s most successful ever Olympian. Hoy, of course, won the SPOTY award after starring at the Beijing Olympics back in 2008.
