SPOTY 2017 Odds

Anthony Joshua remains the firm favourite to be named this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year, but the heavyweight star could yet face strong challenges from Chris Froome and Lewis Hamilton in December’s vote.

Joshua, who unified the heavyweight division when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley in April, is no bigger than 4/9 but Froome’s odds have tumbled from 33/1 with Betfred in August to 7/1 with Coral since he added the Vuelta a Espana title to his 3rd successive Tour de France victory – becoming the first man to achieve the double since Bernard Hinault back in 1978.

Hamilton, who won the SPOTY award in 2014 and has twice been runner-up, is on course for this fourth Formula 1 Drivers Championship and should he achieve it his odds will surely fall from his current best price of 14/1 with Betfred and Coral.

Mo Farah and Jermain Defoe are also available at 14/1, but Froome and Hamilton are the more serious runners in this market.
