Aston Merrygold heads the betting for the new series of Strictly Come Dancing, which returns to BBC1 on Saturday night. As a former member of JLS, Merrygold comes to the show with a head-start in terms of dance training and that is why he is no bigger than a 3/1 chance at Bet365.
The same applies to The Saturdays singer Mollie King, who is the 9/2 second favourite with Betfred to succeed Ore Oduba as the nation’s dancing champion. However, as we learned to our cost when our 9/1 tip Danny Mac was beaten into second place last year, being the best dancer is not necessarily the key ingredient for success. Mac was superb throughout, but Oduba started from a lower level and made great progress. His ‘journey’ appealed to the audience and it’s worth studying the field for someone who fits a similar profile.
Eastenders actor Davood Ghadami, at 10/1 with Coral, is one option, but Holby City’s Joe McFadden, is our pick at 16/1 – Paddy Power and Coral are both offering one quarter each-way odds for the first three places for Strictly Come Dancing 2017.
