Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio is a 7,366-yard, par 72 layout designed by the great Jack Nicklaus to replicate the feeling of Augusta National. It has been ranked as one of the top 100 courses in the world and is one of the Tour’s toughest tests, with challenging changes in elevation, unforgiving fairways and slick greens. Tiger Woods is a 5-time champion, but the most recent winners have been Matt Kuchar, Hideki Matsuyama and defending champion David Lingmerth.

The world’s top three are all in attendance and there is little to choose between them in the betting. Jason Day is the favourite with most firms, but Paddy Power are offering him at 13/2 and paying 7 each-way places. Rory McIlroy is available at the same price with Paddy Power, who have Jordan Spieth at 7/1. Remarkably, after Spieth’s victory at the Dean & DeLuca Invitational, all three men have won on their most recent appearance, with McIlory winning the Irish Open and Day the Players Championship. Matsuyama, the 2014 champion, is a 20/1 chance with Ladbrokes , Dustin Johnson is at 22/1 with Paddy Power, who offer Kuchar at 22s.

Charl-SchwartzelThis course ought to suit the talents of Masters champion CHARL SCHWARTZEL, winner of the Valspar Championship in March. The South African missed the cut here last year, but finished with 8th place finishes in both 2013 and 2014. As a major champion and three-time winner this season, he certainly won’t be perturbed by the presence of the big three in the field and he looks a cracking each-way bet at 66/1 with Betfred, who are paying six places.

Paul CaseyAs another man with fond memories of Augusta, finishing 4th in April to follow on from another top 10 last year, PAUL CASEY is more than capable of going well at Muirfield Village. He was a creditable 13th here back in 2014 and top 10s at the WGC Cadillac Championship, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Masters in his last 7 outings suggest that he offers good value at the 66/1 available with BetVictorLadbrokes and Coral.

Bill-Haas-GolferBILL HAAS has been in the top 25 in 7 of his 14 tournaments this season, with four top 10s to his name including a runners-up finish at the Valspar Championship. He has played well here on his last three visits, finishing 4th, 8th and 18th – and has put in some promising performances at Augusta, too, in that time and was just outside the top 20 at the Masters in April. At stand-out odds of 80/1 offered by BetVictor, he is our third pick this week.
