We think trainers Dan Skelton and Philip Hobbs can have days to remember as The Open meeting comes to an end this afternoon.
Supreme Trial Novices’ Hurdle
With the ground likely to ride testing despite a dry night overnight, it could be worth taking on the two market leaders in the opener with DRUMLEE SUNSET given that he is in receipt of the most weight from Altior and Maputo in what will surely turn into a test of stamina.

Arkle Trophy Trial Novices’ Chase
Hobbs has a strong favourite in the next and Garde La Victoire is certainly the one to beat, but at the prices we are going to take a chance on FOX NORTON, for the in-form Neil Mulholland. He is versatile, ground wise, and seems to have improved for a change of yard.

The same may be true of SAVELLO in the next and we think he can cause a big upset for Skelton. He won the Grand Annual here in 2014 and had a nice pipe opener over hurdles recently. With doubts over many of his rivals, he is worth chancing, albeit that we’d love to see Sprinter Sacre bounce back to his imperious best and claim the valuable prize on offer.

The day’s big race is the Greatwood Hurdle and Skelton again has a major chance here courtesy of SUPERB STORY. He’s another to join Skelton over the summer and that move has paid dividends already following this horse’s smooth success at Wetherby last month. He’s a strong traveller who will be suited by the way this race is likely to pan out.
The same is true of DEXCITE, who looks nicely treated towards the foot of the weights. He was a big baby last season, but seems to be getting his act together now and it is interesting that Tom George goes for a race like this with a maiden who is still qualified to run in novice contests.
We were tempted by Days Of Heaven and Bouvreuil, but were concerned about Paul Nicholls’ comment that the latter might need the run.
The final vote, therefore, goes to the other George runner, OLOFI, who looks well treated on old form and loves it around here.
