The US PGA Championship 2017 takes place at Quail Hollow, with Jimmy Walker set to defend the title he won at Baltusrol 12 months ago. Rory McIlroy won this championship in 2012 and 2014, either side of Jason Dufner’s victory in 2013, while Jason Day was the 2015 winner. Quail Hollow is  hosting its first major tournament – but it is a regular stopping on the PGA Tour, staging the Wells Fargo Championship, which has also been won twice by McIlroy including by a seven-shot margin in 2015. James Hahn was the 2016 champion of that particular event, while Rickie Fowler and JB Holmes are other recent winners. The course, which has been extended to almost 7,600 yards and reduced to a par 71, features many narrow tree-lined fairways, sloping greens and a near 200-yard water carry on its signature hole, the par 3 17th.

Rory McIlroy has shown a little bit of good form over the past fortnight and the Northern Irishman with a great record in this event and at this course is the market leader for this last major of the year, at best odds of 8/1 with Betfred. Jordan Spieth, winner of last month’s Open Championship, can be backed at 10/1 with the same firm, while Hideki Matsuyama is a 12/1 shot with Betfred and Ladbrokes after his stunning victory at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Sunday. World no.1 Dustin Johnson is 12/1 with Bet365, with Rickie Fowler at 18s with Ladbrokes. The rest of the field are available at odds of 28/1 or greater, starting with Jon Rahm and US Open winner Brooks Koepka. Walker is a 125/1 shot with Betfred or Ladbrokes.

Since 2012 JUSTIN ROSE has recorded eight top 10 finishes at the majors and has finished in the top 25 a further eight times, winning his first major title at the US Open in 2013. Of course, he was also runner-up at The Masters in April, losing out to Sergio Garcia in a play-off, and has finished in the top five twice at the US PGA in the last five years. Throw in his recent record at Quail Hollow – he was third last year and fifth in 2014 – and you have a great each-way contender. Rose is our headline pick this week at 40/1 with Betfred, with 6 places – or take the 35/1 and 8 places at Bet365.

RAFA CABRERA-BELLO has been one of the European Tour’s most consistent performers over the last year and will be itching to build on his best ever result in a major, finishing fourth in the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale last month. The powerful Spaniard had won the Scottish Open a week earlier and despite a poor showing at the Bridgestone event last week he will be feeling good about his game. Back him at 100/1 with either Betfred or Unibet.

KEVIN KISNER earned his second PGA Tour victory at the Dean & DeLuca Invitational in May and the elegant American has been slowly coming to terms with the majors over the last couple of years, making the cut at each of the last seven. His best result was a share of 18th place at Baltusrol last year, while he was sixth on his first appearance at this venue three years ago. He is also a best price of 100/1 with Paddy Power with 8 places.

JB HOLMES is a former winner at Quail Hollow who has been playing well of late – 12th at the US Open – and while he’s not one of our outright picks, we’ll back him to get off to a strong start, with Bet365 offering 80/1 in the First Round Leader market.
