Venue

Quail Hollow has been hosting the Wells Fargo Championship since 2003 and has produced some notable champions including Tiger Woods and Rickie Fowler, while Rory McIlroy won the second of his two titles at this venue last year and is back to defend. The course, which measures in at almost 7,500 yards, features many narrow tree-lined fairways, sloping greens and a near 200-yard water carry on its signature hole, the par three 17th.

Favourites

Having won here in 2010 and 2015, McIlroy is the firm favourite to make it a treble this week, particularly as Jason Day and Jordan Spieth are both taking time out. The Northern Irishman is no bigger than the 9/2 with Betfred, who are offering 6 places for each-way bets. Fowler was the winner here in 2012 and following the withdrawal of Dustin Johnson he is second in the betting at 16/1. Adam Scott and Henrik Stenson can each be backed at 22/1, with Hideki Matsuyama, Justin Rose and Phil Mickelson also among the leading contenders.

Tips

Kevin-Chappell-GolferWe tipped KEVIN CHAPPELL at odds of 45/1 at the Valero Texas Open a fortnight ago and he repaid us with a share of 4th place, his third top 10 finish in his last four appearances. We will be backing him again this week at the same price, this time with Paddy Power, who are paying 7 each-way places. Chappell has been increasingly getting to grips with Quail Hollow, finishing just outside the top 10 on his last two visits.

Phil-Mickelson-LeftyIt’s been a strange season so far for PHIL MICKELSON, with his 10 outings producing three missed cuts and three top fives. While he has been blowing hot and cold this year, he generally finds his best form at this venue and with a record of finishing 11th or better on 6 of his last 7 visits it’s a wonder he hasn’t ever lifted the trophy. He was runner-up to McIlroy in 2010 and looks a great each-way bet with those 7 places at Paddy Power.

Jason-Bohn-Golf JASON BOHN made a flying start to the season with three top three finishes in his first four events, but has since gone off the boil and missed the cut in New Orleans last week. However, his last two seasons have followed a similar pattern, but each time he has placed in the top 10 at Quail Hollow. He was fourth here in 2014 despite missing two cuts prior to the event and three thereafter. Take a chance on him at 150/1 with those 7 places.
