Venue

This WGC event has a new title sponsor and a new venue – out go Cadillac and TPC Harding, in come Dell and the Austin Country Club, a beatifully landscaped course built around the rocky waterway of Deer Creek. It’s a short layout at just over 6,600 yards and requires careful plotting rather than booming drives.

Favourites

Rory McIlroy won this title a year ago – he returns to defend and is at the top of the betting market alongside Jason Day and Jordan Spieth, with all three available at best odds of 12/1. Adam Scott is at 14/1, Rickie Fowler and Bubba Watson are at 18s and Justin Rose is next up at 25/1. Day won this event in 2014 at Dove Mountain, which was the host venue for nine years, and other previous winners include Matt Kuchar, Hunter Mahan, Luke Donald and Ian Poulter.

Tips

Danny-WillettDANNY WILLETT finished third at this tournament 12 months ago and the leader of the European Tour’s Race to Dubai looks to have an excellent chance this time around too. Third on his last outing at the WGC Cadillac Championship at the start of the month to continue a fine season, which includes victory in a top class field at the Dubai Desert Classic in February. He’s as short as 28/1 in places, but Ladbrokes are offering 40s.

Zach JohnsonZACH JOHNSON has played well in fits and starts this year, but was back amongst the leaders at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week, finishing fifth. The Open champion doesn’t have a great record at this event, but the change of venue should be to his liking as he is better known for his accuracy than his length off the tee. He’s an attractive each-way price, too, with Bet365 and Coral offering 66/1.
