1,000 Guineas Tips

After running away with yesterday’s 2,000 Guineas, Saxon Warrior has the potential to be one of the best horses seen in recent years and Aiden O’Brien goes in search of another Guineas double at Newmarket today.

Qipco 1000 Guineas Stakes

He saddles three in the 1,000 Guineas, including favourite Happily and the fillies Classic could turn out to be a showdown between arch rivals Coolmore and Godolphin. They saddle four of the first five in the betting and the one we like best is WILD ILLUSION, who can make up for Masar’s defeat yesterday for Charlie Appleby.

There may not be much between the Appleby pair of Soliloquy and our selection, and William Buick has chosen Soliloquy, but Appleby has openly admitted Wild Illusion doesn’t show as much at home as her stablemate and it is what they do on the track that matters. If she is in the same form as when winning the Prix Marcel Boussac last October then she’ll take some beating.

The biggest danger may be the apparent O’Brien second string, I CAN FLY. She got stuck in the mud on a couple of occasions last season and will surely relish the decent ground on the Rowley Mile today.

For those looking for one at a monster price, don’t rule out the rank outsider, WORSHIP. David Simcock is a fine trainer of fillies and the fact that he is letting this horse take her chance after just one run last season is interesting. She beat two 90 rated fillies quite impressively that day.

Coral and Paddy Power are both offering 4 places for each-way bets on this race.

We think Charlie Appleby has a good chance of taking the opener on the Newmarket card too. Of his three runners, we like CELESTIAL SPHERES who has been in fine form on the all-weather recently. He can hopefully continue the upward curve now back on turf.

The big danger has to be the very lightly raced ADAMANT for the fearsome combination of Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore. This colt is trying a mile and a half for the first time, but looks likely to improve for it based on his fast finishing second over a shorter trip on his comeback.

Paddy Power are offering 4 places for each-way bets on this race.

The day’s other big betting heat is the six furlong handicap at 2.55pm, where 2015 winner EASTERN IMPACT, has a big chance based on his recent comeback over course and distance.

The chief danger could be MAGICAL MEMORY, who looks to be running into form for Charlie Hills and Frankie Dettori, whilst pick of those at bigger prices could be CAPTAIN COLBY. He became frustrating last season, but showed plenty of sparkle on his first start for Paul Midgley and he is well treated based on the best of his old form.
