6/1 Smith Shows Class To Retain Queensland Title

The market leaders made their quality count at the Australian PGA Championship in Queensland, where second favourite Cameron Smith saw off the challenge of favourite Marc Leishman to take the title by two shots.

The two highest-ranked players in the field were as short as 5/1 and 6/1 in the pre-tournament betting and both men were able to continue their fine recent form. A brilliant second round of 65 on Friday was to prove crucial for Smith, who successfully defended the title he won last year.

The 25-year-old Australian had just broken into the world’s top 100 when he won this title in 2017 and his latest success keeps him moving towards the top 20.

There’s nothing to suggest he can’t be a serious contender for next year’s Masters at Augusta, where he tied for fifth place in April. He’s a best price of 80/1* with Bet365 or BetVictor. Our three selections all finished in the top 20 on the Gold Coast, with 60/1* chance Matthew Millar tying for third place.
