Aintree Festival 2019 – Day 3 Tips

It’s Grand National day at Aintree and you can find our horse-by-horse preview and selections for the great race here.

The day kicks off with a very competitive staying handicap hurdle on ground that is drying out all the time.

Gaskells Handicap Hurdle

Dan Skelton looks to have two big chances with the classy Aux Ptits Soins and TOMMY RAPPER. They are at opposite ends of the handicap and slight preference is for the latter who is back over hurdles after tacking fences earlier in the season. He is only one pound higher than his last winning run over the smaller obstacles.

Burrows Park has franked the Martin Pipe form from the Festival, which brings COOLANLY into the equation, whilst GUNFLEET is another who might relish a return to hurdles.

Canyon City will like the ground and Keepers Hill will enjoy the drop in class. They are others to consider.

Mersey Novices’ Hurdle

The Mersey Hurdle is the first grade one of the day and Angels Breath should run much better here with the longer trip in his favour following a poor effort in the Supreme. However, both he and Brewin’upastorm look beatable and we are going to back the fresher horses UMBRIGADO and CHOSEN MATE. They are both unexposed and surely have more to offer.

Doom Bar Maghull Novices’ Chase

The Doom Bar Maghull Novices’ Chase follows and this will be run at a fierce-some pace with a number of front runners in the line-up.

The track may not play to the strengths of the favourite, Us And Them whilst second favourite, Lalor, also has a lot to prove, so the race could be between Clondaw Castle, ORNUA and KNOCKNANUSS.

Preference is for the latter pair, who are both backable each way with Paddy Power who offer 3 places despite just seven runners.

Ryanair Stayers Hurdle

The Stayers Hurdle lacks the star of the division, Paisley Park, but is very competitive as a result.

IF THE CAP FITS looks to have been crying out for the step up in trip and is better value than Apples Jade after the mare’s disappointing effort in the Champion Hurdle.

Of those at bigger prices, WEST APPROACH may enjoy the return to a flatter track after only finishing ninth at Cheltenham.

Paddy Power are offering 4 places for each-way bets on this race.

Betway Handicap Chase

The race before the big one is the Betway Handicap at 4.20pm. The class horse is top weight KIDISART, who was a fine fourth in the JLT at Cheltenham. He could improve again for the longer trip here.

OLDGRANGEWOOD loves it around here and looks well handicapped based on his effort in this race last year, whilst SOME BUCKLE is an interesting outsider on his second start for a new yard.

Paddy Power are offering 5 places for each-way bets on this race.
