We review the latest betting news and highlight five things for you to consider.
1. Arsenal strong favourites for Cup double
Arsenal are 1/3 favourites (Bet365, Betfred, BetVictor, Sky Bet) to win the FA Cup for the second successive season after Aston Villa shocked Liverpool in Sunday’s second semi-final. Arsenal were unconvincing against a determined Reading side in Saturday’s last four match, but did enough to get through and will be well fancied to beat a Villa side they thrashed 5-0 in the Premier League in February. Villa, who last won the Cup in 1957 and were last in the final 15 years ago, can be backed at stand-out odds of 13/5 with Ladbrokes to lift the trophy next month.
2. Klopp lurks as Rodgers comes under pressure
Brendan Rodgers has gained a reputation as a master tactician during his time at Liverpool but he was out-thought by Tim Sherwood in Sunday’s semi-final and there will inevitably be speculation about his position should the Reds fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League. The availability of Jurgen Klopp is sure to lead to stories linking the German with a summer move to Anfield and Paddy Power are offering 9/1 for Liverpool to be Klopp’s next club.
3. Tories cut to win most seats
Labour leader Ed Miliband has been struggling to make any headway in the polls in the pre-election debates and with the Conservatives offering wavering voters some enticing giveaways should they be returned to power, David Cameron’s party have shortened in the Most Seats betting. The Tories were 4/7 to gain the most seats in the middle of last week, but with the General Election a little over a fortnight away they are now 4/9 across the board.
4. Mayweather eased for Pacquiao fight
There’s just two weeks to go until the most eagerly awaited fight of the year as Floyd Mayweather takes on Manny Pacquiao and the punters are already piling in to both sides. Mayweather was immediately installed as the 4/9 favourite when the fight was announced with Pacquiao opening as a 9/4 chance. Those positions have moved slightly, with Mayweather now eased to 1/2 by most firms and his opponent, who was a best price of 7/4 last week, now available at best odds of 15/8 with both Bet365 and Paddy Power.
5. Early Toulon price may not last
On the same day as the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, two of rugby union’s heavyweights will slug it out at Twickenham in the final of the inaugural European Champions Cup, as Clermont Auvergne face Toulon, who won the last two editions of the Heineken Cup. It is a repeat of the 2013 Heineken Cup final in Dublin, which Toulon won by a single point, while the two clubs also look set to go head-to-head for the Top 14 title. There’s little to choose between them – Toulon won the only league meeting so far this season by eight points – but with Paddy Power offering the champions at 8/13, the 4/5 on offer from BetVictor should be snapped up.
