All eyes will be on Thomas Bjorn this week as he names his wildcard picks for the Ryder Cup, with the European captain expected to go for experience to blend with his eight qualifiers.
Ryder Cup rookies Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Jon Rahm, Alex Noren and Thorbjorn Olesen have all earned their places at the Le Golf National and Bjorn looks set to turn to Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson, Paul Casey and Sergio Garcia as his four selections to add some much needed know-how to his line-up.
That is despite the form of England’s Matt Wallace, who claimed his third victory of the season in front of the watching Bjorn at the Made In Denmark event on Sunday. Wallace won a four-way play-off that also featured Ryder Cup veteran Lee Westwood.
With the two teams for this month’s match to be confirmed on Wednesday, the defending champions the United States remain the 5/6* favourites across the board to earn their first victory on European soil since their 1993 success at The Belfry.
The Europeans have won the last five matches they have hosted, including a five-point win at Gleneagles four years ago. Bjorn’s men can be backed at 6/5* generally.
