Bubba Watson geared up for Augusta in perfect fashion with victory at the Dell World Match Play event in Texas, thrashing Kevin Kisner 7&6 in Sunday’s final having eliminated world no. 2 Justin Thomas earlier in the day.
It completed a remarkable return to form for the two-time Masters champion, who had begun the year by sliding out of the world’s top 100 for the first time in a decade, before winning the Genesis Open in February and following up with a top 10 in Mexico. Sunday’s win puts him back up to 21st in the rankings, but more significantly it marks him out as a real force ahead of next month’s first major of the year. Watson donned the Green Jacket in both 2012 and 2014 and will have plenty of support as he bids to join Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Gary Player, Phil Mickelson, Nick Faldo, Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead and Jimmy Demaret in the elite club of three-time champions.
