As Wolves show signs of tension at the top of the Championship a fascinating tussle is developing behind them in the race for the Premier League. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side remain 1/5 favourites to win the title, but their lead is now down to just three points and they were thrashed 4-1 by third placed Aston Villa on Saturday.
Wolves have now won only one of their last five matches, while their nearest challengers Cardiff have won six in-a-row under their wily old manager Neil Warnock, who has seen this all before. Only Steve Bruce can rival Warnock for gaining promotion to the top flight, and his Villa side are building up a real head of steam, with 10 wins in their last 12 league matches. Cardiff and Villa are now 7/1 and 16/1 respectively in the Championship betting at BetVictor.
And then there is Fulham (33/1 Ladbrokes), a point back from Villa having played a game more, but with 12 wins in an unbeaten run of 15 league games stretching back to the Saturday before Christmas. It could all come down to back-to-back games for Cardiff against Wolves and Villa in the week after Easter, where a couple of draws could open the door for the Cottagers. In the promotion betting, Cardiff are 4/9 with Coral, while Villa and Fulham are 10/11 & evens respectively at Betfred.
